Species Specific Rigs are designed and developed with a certain specific species in mind. It has always been my opinion that a really good lure would likely catch most anything offshore that swims. So why would you need a "Species Specific" rig? The reason is because certain rigs have proven to be more beneficial in attracting certain species and often that is just what an offshore fisherman needs. For example, if you had heard that the wahoo have been tearing up the water and that will likely to be the main reason you are going out on a certain day, it just makes good sense to bring along the right artillary for that day's intended job.

No one can say without question that a particular rig will catch only that one particular species. In fact, if it is a really good rig, it will catch everything swimming out there. But by stacking the odds in your favor for that particular species it will usually pay off in a much better catch ratio for your targeted species.
